Prof Robert Leonard
Main interest
Prof Leonard’s main interests are in clinical and translational research in breast cancer.
Current position
He is Professor of Cancer Studies at Imperial College and Chief of Service for Medical Oncology and Lead Clinician for Cancer Services at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London.
Education
Prof Leonard trained at Charing Cross Medical School and the Hammersmith Hospital in London, and subsequently held research posts in Oxford, Newcastle, and at Harvard Medical School.
Other activities
He led several national and international trials in breast cancer. His laboratory group, the Human Cancer Studies Group, is supported by grants from industry, cancer charities and the EU; and is developing biomarker profiling using fresh and fixed tissues providing DNA, RNA, protein for tissue and proteomic studies in serum from patients with breast cancer.
In 1993, he set up and currently chairs the Anglo-Celtic Collaborative Oncology Group (ACCOG) and is a member of the Breast International Group (BIG), Trans-BIG. He is also an advisor for Cancer Research UK and Medical Director of the Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre in the UK, which he helped develop.
Prof Leonard has published in many national and international journals.
