The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Foundation, which is a nonprofit organization supported by the US-governmental CDC and private sponsors, is leading a comprehensive program focusing on providing information, action steps and tools for cancer patients, their families, and their healthcare providers to reduce the risk of developing potentially life-threatening infections during chemotherapy treatment. Neutropenia is a common side-effect of chemotherapy and leads to hospitalizations due to infections, chemotherapy dose reductions, and chemotherapy dose delays which may influence survival.
For cancer patients, CDC Foundation developed an interactive website in collaboration with Amgen "3 Steps toward preventing infections during cancer treatment" to help cancer patients recognize signs and symptoms of infection and to prevent infection.
